How To Murder Time 2.40: Aliens vs Predator 2

This week we’re taking a look at a classic FPS: AvP 2.

Developed by Monolith and released in 2001, it continued the model of the first that let you play through three separate campaigns as the Colonial Marines, Aliens and Predators. The game also had a rather fun multiplayer mode.

Just don’t mention the 2010 version.

It’s soooo long ago, but I seem to remember the multiplayer being a lot more fun in AvP (1). I think it had something to do with larger maps that was less arena-like and more like huge factory complexes and such. Also the light sources could be broken which really made it harder for marines without light source and infra red equipment. But maybe I’m remembering it wrong.

I really think you should have a look at Freespace 2 (released 1999). I truly miss those halcyon days of space combat sims. But there’s also TIE Fighter (1994) if you want to get really retro πŸ˜›

There’s also Unreal (uhh…. ’98? ’99?) and Baldurs Gate! (’98) – though you decide whether to “cheat” and grab the Enhanced Edition (what has been in the Steam Autumn Sale).

    Just some ideas πŸ˜›
